A Christian undergraduate university founded in 1979, The King’s University College is located in Alberta’s capital city, just minutes from downtown Edmonton, and within easy reach of the many cultural and recreational opportunities offered by this vibrant city. King’s modern campus occupies over eight hectares with facilities that include 34 classrooms, eight science labs, three computer labs, a greenhouse, fine arts studios, and a performance hall with pipe organ.
The King’s University College strives to let its Christian commitment and worldview inspire teaching, learning, research and community life. This commitment to developing a thriving and robust Christian community through whole-person education (academically, socially, physically, vocationally, emotionally and spiritually) makes King’s a unique institutional leader in preparing students to be responsible and contributing citizens in contemporary society. A dedicated team of professors and student development professionals equip students with essential knowledge, integrative and critical thinking skills, core values and leadership qualities. The lively and dynamic learning environment at King’s is enhanced by the institution’s strong commitment to faculty research and community service. The King’s community prides itself on commitments to social justice and creation care, dedication to arts and drama, excellence in interdisciplinary education and capacity to graduate global citizens.
King’s offers fully accredited bachelor degrees in the arts, humanities, music, social sciences, natural sciences and commerce/management, as well as a bachelor of education after-degree (elementary and secondary). King’s also offers two unique, interdisciplinary programs in environmental studies and in politics, history and economics. Students can enrol in 561 different courses in 24 disciplines, with 13 major concentration areas. The various programs are currently served by 50 full-time and 61 part-time faculty. King’s is known for its quality of education, student-faculty interaction, and warm, community atmosphere. Learning takes place in an authentic, faith-shaped community that challenges students’ perceptions of the world and their place in it. A major advantage of a King’s education is the opportunity students have to experience a one-to-one mentorship with professors that is difficult to match in larger institutions. Research training of undergraduates, whether in the laboratory, field or literature research, including co-publication, is a particular strength of the King’s experience. The university college has a remarkable array of advanced, cutting-edge equipment normally found only in larger universities . Of particular note is the King’s Centre for Visualization in Science (KCVS) which is developing computer-based teaching tools for high school science teachers. King’s students have established an outstanding track record of admission to graduate schools all across the country.
