Established in 1908, The University of British Columbia (UBC) is one of North America’s largest public research and teaching institutions. Surrounded by the beauty of the Canadian West, UBC embraces bold new ways of thinking that attract exceptional students and faculty.
More than 4,000 faculty members serve a student population of 54,000 on major campuses in two cities (Vancouver and Kelowna). UBC has two downtown Vancouver locations with executive and continuing studies programs conducted at UBC Robson Square (www.robsonsquare.ubc.ca) and digital arts programs offered at the Great Northern Way Campus (www.gnwc.ca), which is a collaboration between three other postsecondary institutions. The university opened its Asia Pacific Office in Hong Kong in 2005, and has announced plans to open offices in Bangalore and Delhi, India.
UBC advances learning and teaching by expanding opportunities outside the classroom. This includes informal educational settings and enriched learning opportunities–co-op placements, international service learning, and community service learning. More than 2,600 students have participated in community service learning opportunities in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and in Kelowna.
