Founded in 1852 by the Basilian Fathers, St. Michael’s College is the Catholic college in the University of Toronto. As such, it offers students an academic home in a college which has inherited intellectual traditions springing from medieval Europe, combined with full membership in one of Canada’s greatest modern research universities.
Set in its own green space on the St. George (downtown) campus of the University of Toronto, the college is in the heart of the city.
St. Michael’s provides a superior undergraduate education in arts and science which prepares students for full citizenship in an increasingly complex and interdependent world. This mission is undertaken within a milieu in which the Christian faith, in the Catholic tradition, is openly professed and its intellectual heritage explored and developed. At the same time, the college welcomes men and women of every background who wish to become members of its academic community. The university has a graduate Faculty of Theology, in addition to a continuing education division offering general-interest courses and various certificate programs. St. Michael’s is affiliated with the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies and with the Canadian Catholic Bioethics Centre, both of which are located on the St. Michael’s campus.
