The University of Winnipeg is an urban campus located in the heart of Winnipeg. UWinnipeg is committed to academic excellence. From its unique high school collegiate on campus (grades 9-12) right through its 55+ program in the Division of Continuing Education, The University of Winnipeg promotes lifelong learning and making postsecondary education accessible to non-traditional and underrepresented populations such as rural, Aboriginal, inner-city and new Canadian students. It offers interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programs in arts – including a bachelor of arts in human rights and global studies – sciences, education and theology. UWinnipeg’s Faculty of Business and Economics offers a unique program that reflects the current trends of some of the most prestigious business schools in North America. The University of Winnipeg is establishing a Faculty of Kinesiology that will formally come into being on July 1, 2012. At the graduate level, there are several innovative master’s degree programs including including a unique Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) in Indigenous Studies, thanks to a prestigious MacArthur Foundation grant and which is one of only 22 universities worldwide to offer this internationally recognized designation. UWinnipeg also offers a BA and MA in Indigenous Governance.
The university offers joint master’s programs (with the University of Manitoba) in public administration, history and religious studies; several applied programs are also offered jointly with Red River College, international development and conflict resolution studies are offered through Menno Simons College, an affiliate of UWinnipeg.
UWinnipeg’s innovative GlobalCollege offers a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing pressing global issues for students as well as local, national and international communities.
The university expanded its campus with the new Richardson College for the Environment and the Science Complex, a leading-edge science facility that is a model of green building technology. UWinnipeg has created a new student centre that includes a bookstore, a Starbucks and a student pub in the AnX. These capital projects were preceded by the opening of the the Buhler Centre (home to the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Division of and Continuing Education), the McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence, The University of Winnipeg Student Association Day Care, the Asper Centre for Theatre and Film and a new fitness centre. The UWinnipeg renaissance is helping to revitalize and strengthen Winnipeg’s downtown community .
