Simon Fraser University (SFU) began opening minds to a fresh new approach to higher learning more than 45 years ago when the Burnaby Mountain campus was opened. Named for a famous early explorer, SFU embodies the bold and adventurous spirit of its namesake.
SFU pioneered an open inclusive approach to higher learning that fuelled an enduring interplay between learning, discovery, and community outreach. Today, SFU is a dynamic research-intensive university with deep connections to its communities, both local
and global, and a commitment to equip students with the knowledge, research skills and real-world experiences they need to succeed in life.
With a growing reputation as the country’s most community engaged university, SFU is committed to harnessing all of its capacities to enhance the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of current and future generations. Some of the brightest minds are here – internationally celebrated researchers, inspiring educators and accomplished students – tackling and solving some of today’s most pressing problems. They are bringing innovation, and often new hope, to communities at home and abroad.
The SFU Burnaby campus features the famous Erickson-Massey design, and a beautiful 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape. The campus is surrounded by parkland, with numerous hiking and biking trails. It now includes more than three dozen academic buildings, and is adjacent to UniverCity, a unique and sustainable community that has gained international
acclaim.
In 1989 SFU opened its Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver’s business district. The Vancouver campus has since expanded to include three other signature buildings – the Segal Graduate School of Business, the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, and the exciting new Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, home of the School for the Contemporary Arts – creating a unique cluster of educational facilities in the heart of one of the world’s most liveable cities.
In 2001 SFU opened its SFU Surrey campus in a stunning architectural facility in Surrey City Centre, within walking distance of transit, recreation facilities, and a large-scale urban park. SFU Surrey offers unique programming in an urban, friendly campus environment.
All three campuses are connected by an urban transit system.
