Established by the Lutheran church in 1921, Concordia University College of Alberta has grown to become a university focusing primarily on undergraduate education. Concordia offers 27 baccalaureate degree programs in arts, education, environmental health, management and science, as well as master’s degrees in information systems security management and biblical and Christian studies. Concordia’s faculty excel in teaching as well as research. Its 2,000 students enjoy smaller classes and greater access to their professors. Class sizes encourage participation and dialogue with peers and professors which ultimately leads to a more engaging and relevant education. Designed in the liberal arts tradition, Concordia’s programs focus on developing students’ critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and communication skills.
Student life offers a rich and fulfilling experience. Staff and faculty are dedicated to developing students intellectually, socially, physically and spiritually. Through the Concordia community, students can become involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities including student clubs and associations, music, drama and athletics.
Concordia is founded upon a Lutheran understanding of the Christian faith. It offers church work programs in that tradition. Concordia’s students and faculty, however, exemplify very diverse ethnic and faith traditions. This diversity greatly enriches students’ learning experience. At the heart of Concordia’s mission is dialogue and well-informed debate on life’s most important questions among people with diverse points of view.
Concordia’s Highlands Campus, overlooking the beautiful river valley, offers the advantage of a close-knit university community set in the heart of Edmonton. Alberta’s capital city, Edmonton offers a high quality of life amid an abundance of arts, professional sports and entertainment events, as well as parks that form an extensive network for hiking, biking, jogging and cross-country skiing.
