Message from the International Education Department
The government of Ontario announced that schools will re-open in September 2020. Elementary students in Ontario will be heading back to school full-time while most high school students will split their time between the classroom and online learning. Students in grade 4-12 will be required to wear face masks while in school. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 will be encouraged, but not required, to wear face masks in common spaces.
Elementary students will be provided with the options of attending schools 5 days per week, with one cohort for the full day, including recess and lunch; or having the parents working with the students and teachers online.
Secondary students will be provided with the following options:
- Students will attend schools (face-to-face learning in class) in the morning with class cohorts of approximately 15 students on alternate days. Students will then sent home. Interactive synchronous online learning with their teachers will continue in the afternoon. Students will be scheduled in Quadmesters (4 terms) with 2-3 days in class learning on their subjects. OR;
- Day-eLearning model: this is an independent online learning model. It is asynchronous. Teachers will post videos and learning resources. OR:
- Distance Learning model: this is an online learning with synchronous and asynchronous portions. The synchronous portion will require students to log-in at a specific time to attend the online class with the teacher. There will be live teaching and/or videos.
All students, parents/guardians will receive a link to complete a survey to indicate the preferred option of learning in September. Please watch out for communication email from the board. You must complete this survey and submit it by August 17th 2020.
