Profile

The University of Guelph is one of Canada’s top comprehensive universities because of its commitment to student learning and innovative research.
The university is dedicated to cultivating the essentials for our quality of life — water, food, environment, animal and human health, community, commerce, culture and learning.
The university community also shares a profound sense of social responsibility, an obligation to address global issues and a concern for international development.
The university’s colleges include the College of Arts, the College of Biological Science, the College of Management and Economics, the College of Physical and Engineering Science, the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, the Ontario Agricultural College (and its three regional campuses at Kemptville, Ridgetown and Alfred), and the Ontario Veterinary College. In 2002, the university joined forces with the Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning to create the University of Guelph-Humber in Toronto. Currently, more than 3,000 students are enrolled at Guelph-Humber.
Approximatelly 21,600 full-time equivalent undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled on campus in full- and part-time studies offered in more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The average entering grade of first-year students is above 82 percent and nearly 94 percent of all first-year students entering from secondary schools in 2010 had an average of 75 percent or more. Guelph students achieve a graduation rate of 85 percent, and, on average, more than 95 percent of graduates are employed within two years of completing their degree.
Guelph’s high quality reflects world-class faculty who excel as teachers and researchers: over the years, 25 faculty have been named Fellows of the Royal Society; and 14 have won 3M Teaching Fellowships.
With more than $140 million in external research funding, Guelph is one of Canada’s top research institutions. It is Canada’s innovative leader in plant and animal life sciences and a premier centre for agri-food, biotechnology and environmental research, education and outreach. A 12-hectare research park adjacent to the campus is home to more than 60 companies.
Guelph has about 800 international students and more than 95,000 alumni worldwide.
